Movie Reviews

Ok I been busy with the holidays and going to movie after movie. The Golden Globes are a little less then 2 weeks away and so I got you covered with the reviews the top honors so far. Now I have to start with shocking surprise film to be that I just adored.

Milk I was shocked at how Sean Penn was able to put himself aside and dive straight into Harvey Milk. I have to say that it was refreshing to see a film that was about a gay character and it was secondary to who and what Harvey was. I can see in this film why Sean Penn has been held as one of the top actors of today.

Doubt was extremely dark and really had you thinking a bit. The one time stage play accomplished the unthinkable in a non-musical by Meryl Streep. If you are Catholic (a strong catholic)then this may upset you with the subject matter.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has to be by far Brad's Best film yet this thought provoking story takes you on a ride but backwards. You will be touched by his life and pain in the later years. for 2 hours 48mins I was captured by the entire cast. People go see this movie....

Well that's all folks Happy New Year and chat with you after the Globes..

Down with Beyonce!!!

I wouldn't Normally do this but this has come attention as pure fact. Beyonce has insulted the Jackson family. In an article in Elle (January 2009) Beyonce talks about her marriage that she isn't going to talk about and her movie role as Etta James. Then goes on a self promotion lack of humbleness and bad mouths the Jacksons.

I won't go on you can see for urself:

LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Beyonce has been married to rap superstar Jay-Z for just nine months and it appears the couple is still adjusting to life betrothed.

The singer told Elle magazine in their January issue that her prior relationships have taught her “that the worst thing you can do is press [someone].”

“I’m satisfied with myself, things that are supposed to happen will happen” Beyonce continued.

For the “Cadillac Records” star, a successful love life is found by “[finding] somebody who make you a better person.”

“You are who you’re around,” Beyonce continued, “And if I don’t want to be like you, I don’t want to be around you.”

As for the relationship dynamics for Beyonce and Jay-Z, who are both heads of their own entertainment empires, the singer told the mag it’s all about give and take.

“It’s a power struggle, I’m finding out,” she said of their marriage. “But if I didn’t respect someone and they didn’t have that strength, then I would be bored. I wouldn’t be attracted to them. But at the same time, I’m not looking for someone to dominate me.”

And when the topic of having kids comes up, Beyonce is quick to let her feelings on the matter be known.

“No way! I’m terrified of delivering a child because I saw my nephew born. That traumatized me,” she said of sister Solange’s 2004 birth.

After taking a moment to relax, the singer admits that her fears of childbirth may not last forever, adding, “I’m only 27, I’ve got time.”

And more relaxation is exactly what Beyonce is focusing on.

Despite releasing her third solo album, “I Am…Sasha Fierce,” and recently playing the iconic Etta James on the big screen, the 27-year-old told the mag her current life isn’t about the limelight.

“Being this huge pop star is not my focus right now, " Beyonce added. “I’ve done that. I wanted to sell a million records, and I sold a million records. I wanted to go platinum, I went platinum. I’ve been working nonstop since I was 15. I don’t even know how to chill out.”

Despite being a part of a successful family in the music industry, Beyonce told Elle that people often confused her upbringing with the life of the Jackson family.

“I grew up upper-class,” she said. " Private school, My dad had a Jaguar. We’re African-American and we work together as a family, so people assume we’re like the Jacksons. But I didn’t have parents using me to get out of a bad situation.”

And The Nominees are.... Not Beyonce

Movie News:

Early this morning the Screen Actors Guild Nominations were announced and I was again happy with the list However I thought that Jeffery Wright and Columbus Short were not nominated at all for their roles in Cadillac records. I find as a Movie and Music lover that it would have been a HUGE slap in the face if she was nominated for this movie as an actress. Since she has been shut out from the Critics choice and Golden globes and now The SAG awards (which is voted and nominated by your fellow actors) Chances are there will be no Oscar nod for her either. Surprises were: Will Smith for 7 pounds and Tom Cruise shut out... This was a great year for Movies and to be a real actor... Good Luck to all the nominees...

Congrats.....

MUSIC....

I would like to extend my congratulations to Britney and Solange who are both #1 this week on the billboard charts. Britney is #1 on Billboard 200 and Hot digital songs. Solange is # 1 on the dance charts. Also Pink is at #1 for the song "So What" on the top 40.

Also I have been researching some new artist on the soul level and the two men that stand out are Heston and Eric Roberson. These two were nominated for the BET J virtual awards which was tied for the win with Eric Roberson and Rahsan Paterson.

Eric Roberson from what I have seen has been on the music scene for quite some time with about 5 to 6 albums he has a mellow vibe such as D'angelo but has his own spin on it. The music is breath taking. To find more about Eric Roberson checkout his website www.ericroberson.com

Heston Finally, here comes an artist that is capable of bringing those feelings back. STORYTELLER, the debut album by Heston, is an exceptionally well composed body of work. Heston’s got one of those “instant classic” voices; confidently sensuous and informed by the best side of mellow 70’s soul. Nostalgic, yet very much his own.

With an equal talent for songwriting and producing, his debut release, STORYTELLER, is timeless. Born in The Island of Dominica (British West Indies), singer-songwriter, Heston grew up with music all around him. Being surrounded by reggae, pop, classical, soul, R&B, rock music was commonplace and it is no surprise that radio, along with a collection of his father’s old records, would open the key to his soul and love for all types of music. From Barbara Streisand to Aretha Franklin, The Bee Gees, Marvin Gaye, Elton John, Beres Hammond, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson (to name a few) each musician looped a thread into his soul, and after listening to his music, it is clear that he has been influenced by the best.

With a career in music that began in Atlanta, GA, launched by a self-titled EP, he has defined his journey as a full-time musician, composer, songwriter and producer. “Creating timeless music has always been my ultimate goal,” says Heston with a poised yet humble demeanor. “I want to leave the world with music that can be played for a lifetime.”
To find out more on Heston checkout www.myspace.com/hestonmusic

These artist are on Indie lables which seems the be where you can find some great artist on there that still know what real music is all about..

This Weeks Wrap Up!

Must Have Music

Nuyorican Soul - This album has artist from Roy Ayers to Tito Pinta. This like Neo-latin soul music and it has a great vibe and groove to it. My Favorite track is Run away by latin artist India.

Amel Larrieux lovely Standards- This album showcases old standards by Larrieux it's like her vocals take over the classics and re-invents them to something fresh and new.

Mark Ronson Version- This is a collaberation album from British Artist from Amy Winehouse- Adele this is one of the best collaberation albums around.

Emily King East Side Story- Emily's first singel came out in late 2006 and then the album finally came out. She was nominated for a grammy last year but her album got very little play.

Deborah Cox Destination Moon- I was taken by this album because Deborah sangs these Dinah Washington classics. All I can say is this is how you really do a tibute album.
